African National Congress Pledges Unwavering Commitment to Inclusion and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities on International Day

As the world celebrates the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the African National Congress (ANC) stands firm in its dedication to foster, promote and protect the rights of disabled persons across the nation.

The ANC actively engages in initiatives to enhance and safeguard the rights of persons with disabilities. National Disability Awareness Month, observed from November 3rd to December 3rd, should heighten improved understanding of the struggles of people living with disabilities. For all of us, the primary intent must be to solidify integration and champion social cohesion.

Central to these efforts is the ANC’s role in advocating for the adoption of the White Paper on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

This landmark initiative aligns with the theme of this year’s National Disability Awareness Month which is “Consolidate and Accelerate the Rights of Persons with Disabilities into the Future”. The theme resonates with the ANC’s continuous endeavour towards policy implementation and advocacy for the rights of persons with disabilities.

As we commemorate the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children, The ANC reaffirms its commitment to protect women, children, and persons with disabilities from violence. We also emphasise the crucial role of the safety, security and justice sectors in safeguarding the rights of all citizens, ensuring equitable access to justice for everyone.

The ANC appreciates contributions made by persons with disabilities towards enhancement, inclusion, and the democratic dispensation of our nation.

The ANC will host the National High-Level Dialogue with the Disability Sector, themed “Beyond Labels and Unleashing the Power of Inclusion,” on December 10, 2023. This milestone event symbolizes the ANC’s dedication towards inclusion and empowerment, emphasising the importance of advocacy for persons with disabilities within the organisation and broader society.

The ANC remains resolute in its commitment to advancing the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities. We stand united in our pursuit of a society that embraces diversity, fosters social cohesion, and ensures equitable access to opportunities for all.
