ANC IS STEADFAST IN ITS SUPPORT FOR THE NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE
- 26 August 2024
The African National Congress (ANC) reaffirms its unwavering support for the National Health Insurance (NHI) Act, this is a resolution of our 55th conference to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for all South Africans. The signing of the NHI Act by President Cyril Ramaphosa is a testament to our dedication to ensuring that all South Africans, regardless of their socio- economic background, have access to quality healthcare. The ANC believes that the NHI is a transformative step towards rectifying the inequalities in our healthcare system, and we are determined to see its successful implementation.
We are aware of the ongoing attempts by certain sectors to challenge and derail the rollout of the NHI. These actions are a direct threat to the health and well-being of millions of South Africans who stand to benefit from a more equitable healthcare system. The ANC will stand firm against any efforts to undermine the NHI and will fully support the government in taking necessary legal steps to protect this crucial legislation.
The ANC calls on all South Africans to join us in defending the NHI Act. This is not just a policy but a promise to our people—a promise that healthcare will be a right, not a privilege. Together, we will ensure that the NHI becomes the foundation of a healthier, more just society.
