ANC STATEMENT ON THE POLITICAL WEEK AHEAD

As the African National Congress (ANC) we wish to affirm our commitment to transparent governance and collaborative leadership as we embark on this significant political week. The government has been successfully formed at the national level and in all nine provinces, marking a new chapter of unity and progress for our nation.

The ANC acknowledges that the establishment of the ANC-Led Government of National Unity (GNU) introduces a new, unfamiliar dynamic and wishes to assure the people of South Africa that we will ensure stability, and provide clear policy direction.

This week is pivotal for our political landscape. In Parliament, on Tuesday, 9th July, the National Assembly of Parliament will vote for the House Committee chairpersons, designate representatives of Parliament to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Parliamentary Forum as well as designate Members of Parliament (MPs) to serve on the Judicial Services Commission (JSC).

National Assembly Portfolio Committees will also meet to elect committee chairpersons and receive departmental briefings in preparation for the budget votes scheduled for this term. This process is crucial for the effectiveness and accountability of our government, as these committees play a vital role in overseeing various sectors of government operations and holding the executive accountable.

The ANC, together with our partners in the GNU, remains steadfastly committed to the Statement of Intent signed by all parties. The 7th democratic administration focuses on promoting inclusive and

sustainable economic growth, job creation, infrastructure development, social justice, effective governance, and national security. Together, we are dedicated to building state capacity, enhancing education and healthcare, and fostering social cohesion and democratic participation. The collective foreign policy supports human rights, constitutionalism, and peaceful conflict resolution.

From the 13th to the 14th of July, the first Cabinet Lekgotla of the 7th democratic administration will convene. The Cabinet Lekgotla will develop the policy programme of government – as contained in the Statement of Intent – into a government action plan with targets and timelines.

We reaffirm that the ANC is unwavering in its commitment to our manifesto priorities. The Cabinet will work cohesively, serving at the behest of the President under one unified programme of action. The ANC will protect the unity of the government, ensuring our collaborative efforts within the GNU yield positive outcomes for all South Africans. Our government is gearing up to serve the Republic, providing policy certainty and a stable environment for national development.

We urge all ANC members and South Africans to remain engaged and supportive during this crucial week. Together, we will continue to strive for a united and prosperous South Africa.

Let’s do more, together.

END//
