ANC REACTION TO THE MEDIUM TERM BUDGET POLICY STATEMENT(MTBPS)

The African National Congress (ANC) vehemently opposes any attempts to sow racial discord and spread misinformation by certain groups including the media in our society. The ANC stands unwavering in its belief in a united South Africa that surpasses racial divides and is built on equality and inclusivity.

Recent allegations about racial quotas in trade agreements are misleading and aim to create unnecessary tensions. Our policies, including those related to trade and agriculture, are based on fairness, opportunity, and shared prosperity.

The ANC is fully committed to promoting a thriving agricultural industry that recognizes the importance of creating opportunities for resource-poor farmers. We pledge to support smallholder businesses and promote sustainable resource use, aligned with a broader rural development process, including land reform and improved social services.

The agricultural policy was officially published in August 2021; it was not a recent development. The DA’s

current position on this policy is motivated by political considerations rather than a genuine commitment to the policy’s longstanding goals. In contrast, the ANC advocates for a comprehensive approach to agricultural development that prioritizes sustainable farming practices, social stability, and economic growth to foster inclusive growth across all sectors.

Let us work together to address the instability and imbalance in rural areas.

By encouraging collaboration and cooperation, we can achieve inclusive growth and produce positive results in production and exports. It’s heartening to see farmers reducing their reliance on state subsidies and embracing private sector services, indicating a move towards a more self-sustaining model. Let’s foster healthy competition within the agricultural sector and strive for a brighter future for all.
