The African National Congress (ANC) will this Monday, commemorate the life and enduring legacy of the late ANC President, Isithwalandwe/Seaparankoe Oliver Reginald Tambo, whose visionary leadership and principled struggle for freedom shaped the moral foundation of our democratic nation.

As part of this year’s commemoration, the ANC will host two key activities that honour his contribution to the liberation movement and to the building of a democratic, non-racial and just South Africa.

PART I: WREATH LAYING CEREMONY

The ANC Secretary General, Comrade Fikile Mbalula, will lead the Wreath Laying Ceremony in memory of President O.R. Tambo at his resting place in Wattville, Ekurhuleni.

This solemn occasion will bring together members of the Tambo family, ANC leadership, alliance partners, veterans, and community members who continue to draw inspiration from Tambo’s humility, intellect, and unwavering commitment to unity and justice.

PART II: O.R. TAMBO MEMORIAL LECTURE

Later in the day, the ANC Deputy President, Comrade Paul Mashatile, will deliver the 2025 O.R. Tambo Memorial Lecture under the theme “Reaffirming the Moral Compass of Our Struggle: Unity, Integrity, and Renewal.”

The lecture will reflect on President Tambo’s unmatched diplomacy, his moral stature among global liberation leaders, and his timeless message of collective discipline and renewal, a message that continues to guide the ANC in confronting today’s social and political challenges.
