Media Statement
ANC WISHES THE CLASS OF 2026 WELL AS THEY COMMENCE THEIR MATRIC EXAMINATIONS
- 13 October 2026
When the 2026 school year began, the African National Congress (ANC) welcomed learners and educators to the new academic year. The school year presented an opportunity to build towards the 2026 matric examinations through intensive preparations, earnest learning and the involvement of all stakeholders in shaping the future of our children and building an education system that is responsive to the needs of the country and aligned with its developmental priorities.
These collective efforts have borne fruit, with nearly one million candidates registered to sit for the 2026 National Senior Certificate examinations, commencing on 13 October 2026. This follows the confirmation by Umalusi, the country’s education quality assurance body, that the examination system is broadly ready to conduct and administer the 2026 year-end examinations. This important milestone reflects the collective commitment of learners, educators, parents, School Governing Bodies and education authorities to safeguarding the future of our children.
The ANC wishes the Class of 2026 well in their examinations. Through thorough and intensive preparations, the commitment of educators, the collective efforts of communities, the involvement of School Governing Bodies (SGBs), and the creation of a conducive environment for teaching and learning, we are confident that the 2026 examination results will surpass the achievements of 2025. This will serve as a growing indicator of the progress, resilience and continued improvement of our education system, as well as our collective investment in the future of our children. The Class of 2026 represents the collective efforts and commitment of all stakeholders.
The Class of 2026 should approach these examinations with confidence, excitement and a sense of purpose, looking towards a brighter future filled with opportunities for further education and hope. As the ANC, we reaffirm our historic commitment to “Opening the Doors of Learning” and investing in the future of our children, recognising that education remains central to building a better life for all.
