ANC mourns the passing of Television actor and Producer Sam Phillips

The African National Congress is deeply saddened by the untimely passing of renowned actor, director, producer, writer and music composer Ntate Sam Phillips. He passed away this morning, Saturday 16 January 2021, at the age of 72. Phillips passing leaves a huge void in the performing arts industry as a whole.

Sam Phillips dominated the South African television screens for decades. He was featured in a number of popular television productions such as Phamokate, Backstage, Soul City, The Wild, and recently, Isibaya. His immaculate talent went further to attract international scenes and allowed him to be featured in international plays like Athol Fugard’s Master Herold and The Boys in New Orleans.

We dip our revolutionary banner in honor of this great legend who continues to remain a source of inspiration to many young and upcoming artists. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. May they find solace in knowing that their loss is the nation’s loss.

May his soul rest in eternal peace
