ANC CANDIDATE LIST LODGED AS THE MOVEMENT FOCUSES ON WINNING THE 2026 LOCAL GOVERNMENT

The African National Congress has successfully lodged the overwhelming majority of its candidates for the local government elections of 4 November 2026 with the Electoral Commission, within the nomination deadline of Friday, 28 August.

On the day of lodgement, the Commission’s candidate-capture system experienced technical issues that affected a number of contesting parties. As a result, a small number of the Movement’s entries are being finalised together with the Commission. This is a technical and administrative matter, and it is being handled through the Commission’s established processes.

The African National Congress has full confidence in the Electoral Commission and in the integrity of the electoral process. We commend the Commission for its constructive engagement with all affected parties, and we are working with it to bring these outstanding matters to a close. We are confident they will be resolved.

The ANC will not conduct this matter in the media while the Commission is doing its work. We will provide a further update once the process is concluded. Our focus, and the focus of our volunteers in every ward, remains where it belongs; on the people, and on building better communities together, on 4 November.
