The African National Congress (ANC) extends its deepest condolences to the family of former President of the Republic of Botswana, Dr Festus Gontebanye Mogae, the Government and people of Botswana, and the Botswana Democratic Party following the passing of one of Africa’s most respected statesmen and principled leaders.

His leadership earned him respect across Africa and the world as a disciplined, humble and ethical servant of the people.
The ANC joins the people of Botswana and the broader African continent in mourning this great loss. Dr Mogae’s contribution to African development, good governance and continental solidarity will remain part of the enduring legacy of post-independence African leadership. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his family, friends and the people of Botswana find strength and comfort during this difficult period.
