ANC MOURNS THE PASSING OF HER ROYAL HIGHNESS, QUEEN MANTOMBELA
- 27 June 2025
The African National Congress mourns the passing of Her Royal Highness Queen Mantombela Zulu, widow of the late Prince Mcwayizeni Israel Zulu, son of King Solomon kaDinizulu who served as a respected Regent of the Zulu nation, advisor to His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu, and veteran of our liberation movement.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini, the Zulu Royal Family, and the entire Zulu nation during this time of sorrow.
Her Majesty Queen Mantombela was a revered matriarch and an elder steeped in dignity, wisdom, and profound cultural stewardship. She carried the royal mantle with grace and distinction, upholding Zulu customs and traditions with quiet strength. As an aunt to the reigning monarch, and a bridge between generations, her contribution to the preservation of heritage and royal unity was immeasurable.
She stood beside Prince Mcwayizeni during critical moments in our nation’s history, not only as a consort, but as a quiet force of support to a man who, while grounded in royal tradition, also served the democratic transition as a senior member of the ANC’s National Executive Committee and as a Member of Parliament in our first democratic government.
Her passing marks yet another solemn moment in the enduring history of the Zulu royal house. The pain of this loss reverberates not only through the corridors of the royal palaces but across our nation, where women of her stature are cherished as living libraries of tradition and custodians of communal identity.
We pray for comfort and healing for the Royal Family and all who were touched by her life.
Aphumule ngokuthula uNdlunkulu uThoko..
