Over the weekend, the African National Congress (ANC) successfully delivered Regional Local Government Elections Manifesto rallies across eight provinces, reaffirming its commitment to place communities at the centre of shaping the future of local government. These engagements reflect the ANC’s continued approach of listening to residents, understanding their lived realities and ensuring that its programme of action responds directly to the needs and aspirations of communities.

The localisation of the ANC Manifesto ensures that solutions are informed by communities themselves. While the Manifesto provides a national vision and framework, localised manifestos recognise that every municipality has its own unique challenges, opportunities and development priorities. This approach allows communities to actively participate in identifying challenges and shaping practical solutions that respond to their everyday experiences.

The ANC’s localised manifesto process will be guided by the organisation’s six priority areas, that is, providing affordable water, electricity and other basic services; creating more work and investment where people live; building safer streets, cleaner neighbourhoods and healthier communities; ensuring municipal finances are directed towards the needs of the people; building municipalities that are well-run, capable and honest; and building municipalities that account to and listen to residents.

The successful rallies held across eight provinces over the weekend demonstrate the ANC’s readiness to deepen its engagement with communities and strengthen the partnership between the movement and the people. Through localised manifestos, the ANC continues to advance a people-centred approach where communities are not only beneficiaries of development, but active participants in defining the solutions that will shape their future.
