ANC STATEMENT ON ROAD SAFETY DURING THE FESTIVE SEASON

The festive season marks a time when South African eagerly anticipates a break to recharge and spend cherished moments with family and loved ones. The African National Congress (ANC) calls on all fellow citizens to prioritize road safety measures and adhere strictly to the rules of the road as they embark on their respective journeys.

Recent years have seen a troubling rise in road fatalities during this period, largely due to reckless driving behaviors such as speeding, unsafe overtaking, drunk driving, and distractions like texting. These actions not only claim lives but also cast a shadow of sorrow over families and communities.

We urgently remind all South African road users, as well as visitors to our beautiful country, to conscientiously follow the laws of the road. The commitment to safe travel is paramount in ensuring that our journeys are free from incidents.

Achieving this objective necessitates a firm dedication to road rules—driving within speed limits, avoiding unsafe overtaking, buckling up, refraining from cell phone use while driving, ensuring vehicles are roadworthy, maintaining composure and patience on the road, taking regular breaks to combat fatigue, and abstaining from alcohol consumption while driving.

The ANC calls on everyone to actively promote and adhere to road safety measures during this festive season.

Let us unite in the commitment to Arrive Alive.
