STATEMENT ON THE RELEASE OF THE 2025 NATIONAL SENIOR CERTIFICATE RESULTS

The African National Congress (ANC) welcomes the European Union’s decision to remove South Africa from its list of highrisk third country jurisdictions. This development marks a significant victory for the nation and reflects the progress made in strengthening financial governance and protecting the integrity of the global financial system.

South Africa’s removal from the list follows its delisting by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in October 2025, after comprehensive reforms to combat money laundering and terrorist financing. These reforms are not merely technical adjustments; they represent the practical application of the ANC’s vision of building an ethical, developmental state. By enhancing scrutiny, due diligence, and documentation requirements, South Africa demonstrates its commitment to a world free of illicit practices that undermine security and stability.

This achievement carries important lessons. It shows that sovereignty in the modern era is not only about political independence but also about the ability to manage financial systems responsibly. A country that protects its financial institutions from abuse strengthens its capacity to deliver services, build trust with international partners, and ensure that the wealth of the nation serves the people.

The ANC views this milestone as part of a broader journey of renewal. It reaffirms the importance of state capacity, professionalism, and ethical governance in advancing the vision of the Freedom Charter: that the people shall govern, and the country’s wealth shall be shared. The removal of South Africa from the EU’s highrisk list is therefore both a technical victory and a political triumph, underscoring the link between sound governance and national dignity.

The ANC will continue to consolidate these gains by:

  • Strengthening financial management and service delivery.
  • Building institutions that reflect the values of accountability and transparency.
  • Ensuring South Africa remains a respected partner in the global economy.
  • This moment inspires confidence in the nation’s future and demonstrates that collective effort, guided by principled

leadership, can overcome obstacles that stifle growth and progress.
