ANC URGES EVERY REGISTERED VOTER TO CAST THEIR BALLOT BEFORE VOTING CLOSES
- 29 May 2024
The African National Congress (ANC) calls on every registered voter to make sure they cast their ballot before voting stations close at 9pm.
Voters should remember that anyone who is in the queue at 9pm will be allowed to vote.
The ANC has been encouraged by the massive turnout of voters during the course of today, as well as on the special voting days. This is a great vote of confidence in our democracy and is a demonstration of South Africans’ determination to work together to build the country.
In communities across the country, ANC leaders, veterans and volunteers are encouraging everyone who has not yet voted to go to their voting stations without delay.
We have noted problems in some areas with the functioning of the the Voting Management Devices (VMDs), and welcome the instructions from the IEC to presiding officers to use the manual process where these problems are being experienced.
We have also noted reports of queues at a number of voting stations, in some cases due to problems with VMDs. The ANC urges all voters waiting in the queues to exercise patience as the IEC has made a commitment to ensure every person is able to cast their vote.
People who still need to vote are encouraged not to delay, but to go out now to cast their ballots.
Voting stations close at 9pm.
Voters are reminded to go to the voting station at which they are registered, unless they if they have already pre- notified the IEC that they will be voting elsewhere (Section 24A votes).
All voters should take their valid South African identity document (ID) when voting: either a green barcoded ID book, smartcard ID, or valid temporary identity certificate.
Voters are urged to check their registration details and confirm the location of their correct voting stations by using the following IEC channels:
-
SMSing their ID number to 32810 (R1/SMS)
-
Contact centre on 0800 11 8000
– IEC App downloadable from AppStore or Google Play
