ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE PASSING OF COMRADE AZIZ PAHAD

The African National Congress dips its revolutionary banner and announces the passing of its stalwart and servant of the people Comrade Aziz Goolam Hoosein Pahad. Comrade Aziz Pahad passed away this evening, on September 27, 2023, at the age of 82.
Comrade Aziz is remembered as a patriot, freedom fighter, and servant of the people throughout his life. He was a dedicated member of the ANC, a brilliant diplomat, and a strategist who served as a Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister for International Relations from 1994 to 2008.
He leaves behind his wife, Angina, a brother, children, his granddaughter, and extended family members. He is also mourned by countless friends, comrades, and colleagues, both in South Africa and around the world. The announcement of the funeral arrangements will be made in due course in consultation with the family.
The ANC will issue a full statement on the life and legacy of Comrade Aziz Pahad.
