Tripartite Alliance Summit

Joint statement of the Alliance on the progress of the Alliance Summit

The Alliance summit represented by the NEC of the African National Congress, the CEC of Congress of South African Trade Unions, the CC of the South African Communist Party and the NEC of the South African National Civics Organisation, started as scheduled yesterday. The Summit was opened by President Zuma on behalf of the ANC, followed by Comrade Sidumo Dlamini from Cosatu, Comrade Jeremy Cronin from the SACP and Comrade Ruth Bhengu from Sanco. Following the inputs by the representatives, the Summit discussed inputs until late yesterday.

This morning, Comrade Gwede Mantashe presented a report on the state of the alliance. This report has been discussed. Following this report, the Summit will break into Commissions that will consider reports from the Alliance Working Groups. The commissions will focus on the following issues:

  • Labour markets and youth employment
  • infrastructure Expansion, State Owned Enterprises and Development Finance Institutions and changing the structure of the economy
  • National Development Plan and Macro Economic Policy
  • Rural Development, land and agrarian reform

Commissions will report back to plenary tomorrow mid morning before the presentation and adoption of the Summit Declaration.
