Media Statement
KEY MESSAGING: 30 OCTOBER 2026
- 31 October 2026
INTRODUCTION AND CONTEXT
The country approaches the close of Transport Month, entering a critical phase as it gravitates towards the most important 4th November 2026 Local Government Elections. The milestone we have reached has not been easy, punctuated the organisation’s watershed appeal of the Electoral Court case which the highest court ruled in the ANC’s favour. The ANC defined this judgment as a victory for democracy, free and fair elections, universal suffrage, and the will of the people but strengthened our democracy, the IEC as an institution democracy and the Constitutional Court and our legal jurisprudence. In the end, the Court spoke on behalf of the voiceless, the Constitution and the will of the people triumphed.
The Local Government Elections should take place in a climate of peace, absence of misinformation and disinformation. The onslaught of misinformation and disinformation against the ANC is continuing. This is a well-coordinated agenda and programme to weaken the ANC at the polls. The ANC calls for an immediate end to the political killings which pose a threat to fair, credible and peaceful elections.
LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS STATE OF READINESS
The country gradually approaches the 4th November 2026 determined and is encouraged by the communities’ eagerness to exercise their constitutional right to vote in the Local Government Elections. The elections are about deepening democracy, build a system of local government capable of discharging its mandate of service delivery. The ANC is ready for the elections with the people waiting impatiently to vote for the ANC. This vote is about trust and the confidence of the people in the ANC as a leader of society, joining people in the path of development and uniting them behind the vision of a better life for all.
