THE ANC MOURNS THE PASSING OF COMRADE VIOLET SIZANI SIWELA

It is with deep sorrow and profound sadness that we have learned the passing of one of the dedicated leaders of the African National Congress (ANC), Comrade Violet Sizani Siwela. Born on April 26, 1956, in Bushbuckridge, she dedicated her life to the service of the people of South Africa leaving an indelible mark on the political landscape.

Comrade Siwela’s journey was one of unwavering commitment and service. A distinguished Member of the National Assembly, where she chaired the Portfolio Committee on Small Business Development, and a revered member of the ANC National Executive Committee, her contributions to the movement and the nation were immeasurable.

Prior to her national roles, Comrade Siwela spent nearly three decades as an esteemed teacher and primary school principal in Mpumalanga. Her foray into politics began in 2000 when she assumed the role of ward councillor for the ANC in the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality. Over the years, she ascended through the ranks, becoming a vital force within the ANC.

In the provincial legislature, Comrade Siwela served with distinction, holding various positions, including Member of the Executive Council for Agriculture and Member of the Executive Council for Human Settlements. She further demonstrated her leadership acumen as the Speaker of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature from March 2018 until May 2019.

Internally within the ANC, Comrade Siwela deputized Premier David Mabuza as Deputy Provincial Chairperson of the Mpumalanga ANC from December 2015 until December 2017. Her dedication and contributions were duly recognized by branches when she was elected to the ANC National Executive Committee during the party’s 54th and 55th National Conferences.

The ANC Women’s League also benefitted from Comrade Siwela’s tireless efforts, as she served on the national executive, leaving an enduring legacy in advancing the causes and rights of women within the ANC.

Comrade Violet Sizani Siwela’s departure leaves an irreplaceable void, and our thoughts and condolences go out to her family, friends, colleagues, and the people she served with dedication.

We celebrate her life, her passion, and her enduring spirit in service to the people.

Funeral arrangements and further details will be communicated in due course.
