THE ANC STATEMENT ON THE CONSUMER PRICE INFLATION DECREASE
- 17 September 2025
The African National Congress (ANC) notes and welcomes the 0.2% decrease in Consumer Price Inflation (CPI), down to 3.3% from 3.5% in July 2025. This decrease offers much relief to consumers, insulating them from the high cost of living in an inflationary economy characterised by high food, oil, transport, water and electricity prices which impact heavily on consumers.
This coincides with the recent 25 basis point cut in interest rate by the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), the minimal decrease in petrol and diesel prices, and the intervention by the Minister of Electricity in the National Electricity Regulator of South Africa’s R54 billion erroneous increase of electricity tariffs to ESKOM. Cumulatively, together with other developments to reduce the high cost of living these cushion South Africans from the impact of high inflation which affect the finances of consumers, the poor and the working class.
The President’s drive to attract investment, the ANC’s action plan based on the pillar of enabling inclusive local economic development, job creation and industrialisation will immensely contribute towards improving the lives of South Africans in addition to other measures.
The ANC, through its Economic Transformation Sub-Committee will strive and work with the business sector and other industry players towards creating an economic environment favourable to consumers, capable of creating jobs and reducing poverty.
