ANC EASTERN CAPE MOURNS THE PASSING AWAY OF ANC SARAH BAARTMAN REGIONAL CHAIRPERSON AND EXECUTIVE MAYOR

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape is shocked and saddened on the sudden passing of ANC Sarah Baartman Regional Chairperson and Sarah Baartman District Executive Mayor, Comrade Mzimkhulu Eric Scara Njadayi.
Comrade Scara collapsed and suddenly passed away today whilst attending a meeting. Comrade Scara Njadayi emerged within the ranks of the youth structures of the Mass Democratic Movement (MDM) to be amongst notable leaders of our glorious movement’s preparatory school, the ANC Youth League. He joined and led the student movement, Congress of South African Students (COSAS) in 1993.
Cde Scara was a leader of note who cut his political teeth in the PYA structures.He rose through the ranks from branch to Provincial level. His political activism was later anchored when he joined the ANC Youth League in the same year that he led the student movement. Comrade Scara served in the Branch Executive Committee of Ashley Kriel Branch in 2000 and got elected as the Branch Secretary in 2002 and that of the ANC Youth League in 2004.
He served as the ANC Youth League (Koukamma Sub-Region) Regional Chairperson from 2004 – 2008 and Regional Secretary from 2007 – 2008. Comrade Scara Njadayi got elected as Branch Secretary of the SACP (Ward 4 Koukamma Sub-Region) and served the structure from 2008 – 2010. He was elected once again in 2009 as the Regional Executive Committee member of the ANC Cacadu Region and Deputy Secretary of the ANC Youth League (Eastern Cape) province in 2010. He has served as ANC Regional Secretary (Sarah Baartman Region) from 2012 – 2018- a position he held for two terms. Cde Scara got elected as ANC Regional Chairperson (Sarah Baartman Region), a position he held until his sudden passing.
His brief history of courageous service to the cause of liberation, loyal to the twin tasks of the ANCYL and the strategic objective of the National Democratic Revolution deservedly have earned him the admiration and adoration of the youth of Sarah Baartman Region and the Eastern Cape Province.
Comrade Scara served as Speaker of Sarah Baartman District Municipality from 2018 until October 2021. He just got elected few days ago as Executive Mayor of the District Municipality.
To all the structures that Cde Mthakathi as he was affectionately known led , he helped to shape strategies and tactics, and brought ideological clarity and deepened commitment and dedication. We have lost a leader of unequalled commitment, who will always occupy a special place among millions of the people of our country.
We send our deepest condolences to the Njadayi family, relatives, comrades and colleagues at Sarah Baartman District and the broader Mass Democratic Movement formations.
