ANC Statement on a purported meeting between President Ramaphosa and IFP emeritus President, Prince Buthelezi on Coalitions

The African National Congress has noted media reports of a purported meeting between our President Cyril Ramaphosa and IFP emeritus President, Prince Mangosuthu on a nation wide coalition pact involving hung municipalities.

These reports are inaccurate and not in keeping with the framework adopted by various parities on coalitions. The ANC has already placed on record its approach to coalitions.
As a matter of fact, the ANC like all other parties has established a team to deal with coalition talks. From both the ANC and the IFP the teams exclude both President Ramaphosa and Emeritus President Buthelezi respectively.

The ANC NEC will convene tomorrow, Sunday the 21st of November 2021, to receive reports from the team dealing with coalition talks on the outcomes of the discussions on coalitions.

The outcomes of the NEC including the announcement of Mayoral candidates will be communicated to the public in due course.

We therefore urge the public and the media to allow organizations to make finality and accordingly pronounce themselves in this crucial process of coalitions.

We are fully aware of temptations to second guess parties and their approach to coalitions.

The ANC reiterates its determination to form coalition governments with parties that will help bring about stability in municipalities and further contribute to the acceleration of service delivery in communities.
