ANC WELCOMES HOSTING OF THE FOURTH SOUTH AFRICAN INVESTMENT CONFERENCE

The African National Congress (ANC) welcomes the Fourth South African Investment Conference, which is being hosted by President Cyril Ramaphosa and the South African Government in Johannesburg on Thursday, 24 March 2022.

The Investment Conference in an important milestone in our national efforts to attract investment, and provides an opportunity for the public and private-sector to showcase their respective efforts towards bringing greater levels of investment to South Africa and, most importantly, to creating jobs.

Investment is critical to South Africa’s growth path and is key to realising the Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan (ERRP) tabled in the wake of the COVID-19 Pandemic by President Ramaphosa, and the Re-Imagined Industrial Strategy tabled at the start of 6th Administration of democratic government.

To date more than R770 billion has been pledged towards increasing the stock of investment in South Africa, with pledges received from hundreds of investors across the first three Investment Conferences. This puts South Africa well on its way towards achieving the target of R1.2 trillion by 2023, set by President Ramaphosa at the start of his Presidency. The ANC is hopeful that the 4th SA Investment Conference will yield further pledges from domestic and international investors towards the President’s target, and unlock greater levels of growth in our economy. The focus on social compacts at district level is supported to enable broad participation in creating a shared prosperity.

The South African economy is recovering from the damage caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and new investment can ensure that we achieve faster and more inclusive growth. This conference takes place as government is taking steps to ease restrictions to ensure that the pandemic is managed in a manner that protects lives and ensures economic reconstruction and recovery.

This new investment in factories, mines and critical infrastructure will build South Africa’s productive capacity and create thousands of jobs for South Africans.

New investment and new job opportunities must be created especially for SMME and enterprises owned by youth and women. The ANC welcomes Government’s efforts to mobilise this investment and unblock obstacles.
