ANC CALLS ON COMMUNITIES TO RALLY BEHIND THE VOOMA VACCINATION CAMPAIGN
The African National Congress (ANC) welcomes the announcement by His Excellency, President Cyril Ramaphosa to move the country to Covid-19 lockdown Adjusted Alert Level 1. In addition, the ANC urges all South Africans to lend their support to the government-led Vooma Vaccination Weekends aimed at mobilizing citizens to get vaccinated as a means to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic and return the country back to normality.
The initiative is geared towards ramping up the vaccination program to protect citizens against the COVID19 related illnesses, hospitalization and death.
The ANC also welcomes an announcement by President Ramaphosa that vaccine passports would soon be issued to those who have been fully vaccinated. This would allow a return to normality in which people will be able to visit public spaces, sport, entertainment and recreation venues including easy travel abroad.
We also call on all political, community and traditional leaders, including labour, business and civil society to encourage their respective constituencies to support and embrace the Vooma Vaccination Weekend’s program, as part of our collective efforts to secure the health and lives of the people.
The ANC salutes government for its competent handling of the country’s response to the pandemic, including the non-pharmaceutical interventions.
We urge the people of South Africa to continue taking measures to eliminate risks of infections such as washing our hands regularly, sanitising, practicing social distancing and always wearing our masks. The ANC is keenly aware that these non-pharmaceutical measures must be supported by a solid vaccination programme in order to stop the spread of this deadly pandemic.
